Relapse Prevention Part 2 (3 Strategies) Episode 49
In this episode we will explore three more relapse prevention strategies to help you or a loved one stay sober from drugs, alcohol, or other addictions. Learn ways to increase your self-efficacy, which is our intrinsic belief in our ability to remain sober. Negative emotions that attack our self-efficacy are one of the number one causes of lapse or relapse. We will also discuss physical, mental, emotional, and relational lifestyle changes that will decrease relapse likelihood. Finally, we will examine Abstinence Violation Effect. This is black and white thinking that causes us to feel like we might as well go all the way in if we experience a set back: "I had a drink so I might as well finish the entire bottle," or "I had a piece of cake so I might as well eat the entire thing." This mentality is detrimental to long term sobriety and it damages our self-efficacy and life style change efforts. I will also share my own personal experiences with addiction and recovery to illustrate these three relapse prevention strategies. Please share this with anyone you know who struggles with addiction.
